Efforts to address various issues, challenges, and concerns regarding teacher education policies, practices, and programmes in Southeast Asia were discussed during the 21st Heads of the ASEAN Teacher Education Network, AsTEN Meeting, held on 1st July in Cebu City, Republic of the Philippines. The meeting was hosted by the Philippine Normal University.
Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani, Ra'es of KUPU SB, in his capacity as the Deputy Chairperson of AsTEN.
Among other matters, the meeting discussed agendas related to the development of AsTEN's strategic direction, the involvement of AsTEN members in the AsTEN Teacher Education Quality Assurance Agency, and AsTEN initiatives aligned with the network's strategic direction across the platforms of its member institutions. The meeting also confirmed Kasetsart University as the host for the 22nd AsTEN Heads' Meeting, scheduled for November in Bangkok, Thailand.
A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU was also signed between Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD and AsTEN. The signing marked UBD's admission as a new member of AsTEN. Signing on behalf of UBD was Professor Dr. Haji Noor Azam bin Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Haji Othman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UBD.
